Art Curriculum

Aim

Foundation skills / techniques establishing an understanding of the visual elements: Colour, Shape, Line and Tone. These incorporate different types of paint and painterly techniques, colour theory and dry and wet blending.  All practical work is linked to and informed by the work of other artists.

Topics covered

Colour, Still life, Insects and location.

Homework

Once per term 30 minutes per term

Assessment

Three reviews linking to development of ideas and understanding of other artists work, recording from observation, experimenting with media and final outcomes.

Year 8

Art Curriculum

Aim

Extending skills/ techniques three dimensional work, group work and widening understanding of how traditional and contemporary artists work.

Topics covered

Identity, portraiture and personal representation.  Paint, graphite, mixed media, stencils.

Year 9

Art Curriculum

Aim

To develop independence in students responses to projects and experiencing mini GCSE projects. Further refining drawing skills linking their work to appropriate artists and extending range of skills / techniques to include: Painting with acrylic, printmaking, and Multi- media approaches.  Skills based workshops to develop practical skills for ensure students are GCSE ready.

Cakes, natural forms and working from direct observation.

YearS 10 & 11

Art and Design Curriculum

Aim

Art and Design at Key Stage 4 offers students the opportunity to use their imagination and develop ideas through to a finished piece of work. We offer a range of media and approaches, including: printmaking, drawing and painting, graphic design, three dimensional design, and mixed media.

Topics covered

Research into a theme, topic or subject.

The study of other artists, movement and cultures.

Developing ideas using a range of media techniques

Homework

Once per week. A minimum of 1 hour per week with most completing 2 hours

Assessment

60% Coursework: presentation of a portfolio of work, undertaken over 2 years ( must include a minimum of two projects)

40% Examination: This will be externally set. Starting in January of year 11 students will have about 8 weeks to prepare for the timed test, working with the support of the teacher and in the half-tem holiday. At the end of this period there will be a 10 hour examination realising a finished piece of work based on preparation work.

 Year 12

Art and Design

Aim

The course enables students to work in a range of materials and techniques including print making, photography, painting and drawing and three dimensional work.

Topics covered

Personal Investigation and foundation skills.  Students investigate a series of themes, researching relevant artists, sites of interest, developing ideas and producing finished pieces of work in preparation for Y13.

Once per week 4 hours per week

Assessment

Coursework and three reviews linking to development of ideas and understanding of other artists work, recording from observation, experimenting with media and final outcomes.

Year 13

Art and Design

Aim

The course enables students to work in a range of materials and techniques including print making, photography, painting and drawing and three dimensional work.

Topics covered

Personal Investigation (60%): This incorporates supporting studies, practical work and a written personal study (12%). 

Externally Set Assignment (40%): Incorporates two elements; preparatory studies and the 15 hour period of sustained focus. This could be a large drawing/painting/mixed media piece or a 3-dimensional piece.
