German Curriculum

Aim

To encourage students to be confident about speaking about the topics covered and developing their listening , reading and writing skills including using the present tense confidently

Topics covered

  • Term 1 & 2 Introductions/birthdays/numbers – Echo 1, unit 1 ‘Hallo'
  • Term 3 & 4 Echo 1 – unit 2 'Die Schule’
  • Term 5 & 6 Echo 1 - unit 3 ‘Familie und Freunde'

Homework

One homework per week is set to consolidate work covered in class – 20-30 minutes in length.

Assessment

Termly assessment in one or more of the skills – LSRW - from the course book

Year 8

German  Curriculum

Aim

To develop LSRW skills in the topics covered and to extend independence by learning more grammar – perfect tense.

Topics covered

  • Term 1 & 2 Echo 1 – unit 4 'Freizeit’ and Past Tense
  • Term 3 & 4 Past Tense plus Echo 1 Unit 5 'Mein Zuhause’
  • Term 5 & 6 Echo 1 'Stadt'

Year 9

German Curriculum

Aim

To further develop LSRW skills in the topics covered including consolidation of work in the present and past tenses and the introduction of the future tense.

Topics covered

  • Term 1 & 2 Echo 2 unit 4 ‘Gesundheit’
  • Term 3 & 4 Echo 3 unit 3 ‘Die Zukunft’
  • Term 5 & 6 Echo 2  unit 6 ‘Austausch ’ and Unit 2 'Einkaufen'

Homework

One homework per week is set to consolidate work covered in class – 20-30 minutes in length.

Year 10

German  Curriculum

Aim

To use the topics below to develop skills in LSRW in order to become confident users of the language. We follow AQA GCSE German.

Topics covered

  • Term 1 & 2 – Echo 4 units 4 and 7 'Meine Familie' 'Meine Umgebung'
  • Term 3 & 4 – Echo 4 unit 8 'Die Umwelt' and 'Kultur'
  • Term 5 & 6 –  Echo 4 units 9 and 1 'Die Freizeitstunden''Die Medien heute'

Homework

Up to 2 homeworks per week of which one may be written and one learning

Assessment

2 Controlled speaking and writing assessments to be arranged by the class teacher

Year 11

German Curriculum

Aim

To further develop the LSRW skills using the topics below as a stimulus. AQA GCSE German

Topics covered

  • Term 1 & 2 – Echo 4 unit 2 – 'Ich habe Reiselust'
  • Term 3 & 4 – Echo 4 Unit 5 – 'Gesundheit'
  • Term 5 – exam revision

Homework

Up to2 homeworks per week of which one may be written and one learning

Assessment

2 Controlled speaking and writing assessments to be arranged by the class teacher.

Mock Listening and Reading exam in November

 Year 12

German AS

Aim

To develop LSRW skills using the topics below as a stimulus. To begin to use a more sophisticated style of German involving complex grammar, structure and idiom.

  • Berlin

4 hours of homework/study time per week

An exam in January.

Year 13

German

Aim

To continue to develop LSRW skills using the topics below as a stimulus. To continue to develop a more subtle translating style using the complex grammar taught at AS level.
