We were delighted to welcome Leon McCarron, Adventurer/Storyteller to Wood Green School on Friday 5th May 2017. Leon is a filmmaker, author and adventurer, specialising in long-distance human-powered expeditions. He has covered over 30,000 miles by foot, bicycle and kayak and is a fellow of the Royal Geographical society.
Leon gave two talks titled ‘On Foot Across China’ which covered his six month walk from Mongolia to Hong Kong - crossing the Gobi Desert in temperatures of -30C, following the frozen Yellow River, camping in the shadow of the Great Wall and surviving and thriving in wild and wonderful China.
His talks were both inspirational and educational. Drawing on stories and images from his travels around the world, he encouraged our students to think broadly about life and to get motivated to find a passion and purpose. He inspired them to persevere with tasks of great difficulty, to reflect on problem solving and risk taking, and above all to aim high, take opportunities and give everything to their endeavours both in and out of school.

"The talk reminded me of the importance of trying new things and being adventurous" Year 10 student.
These were the first talks in the Wood Green Lecture Series and we look forward to many more.
