Mrs Beveridge, our 11-16 Administrator is training for another bike ride, the London-Surrey 100-mile event, starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, pedalling through central London and out into the Surrey countryside taking in Leith Hill and Box Hill before heading back into London and the finish on The Mall. She is raising funds for Oxfordshire I.M.P.S. (Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools) which is based at the JR Hospital but which also runs sessions for Year 6 pupils at many of the regional hospitals in our county, including Witney, and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year!
The aim of I.M.P.S. is to empower young people to take responsibility for their own risk management and to learn how to deal with emergency situations. It works and, in fact, one of our students who left Year 11 2 years ago is still with us thanks to the bravery of his older brother who prevented him from choking on a bar of soap when he was about 2-3 years old. His brother had learned what action to take in that kind of scenario during an I.M.P.S. session.
