WGS students at UK Chess Megafinal Review

On Saturday 3rd May, 11 Wood Green Students took part in the Oxfordshire Regional Megafinal of the UK chess Challenge.

The students qualified for the final through a 7 round competition held at Wood Green School in the Spring term. In the Megafinal, students took part in the U12 Boys, U12Girls, U13Boys/Girls and U14-18 Boys/Girls Sections. Competition was tough.  The Regional Organiser, Priscilla Morris, commented favourably not only the standard of play throughout the competition but also the degree of respect that the players showed towards their opponents. All the students receive ceritificates recognising them as outstanding chess players at school and county level, and these will be presented during School Assemblies.

George Christian (11JGB) also won the title of U16 Boys Supremo, being the highest placed competitor in the Section. For this achievement he receives an excellent trophy and an invitation to enter the Southern Gigafinals in July. Good luck George.

Chess club meets every lunchtime in A19 and we hope for even more success in future tournaments.
