Congratulations to the Wood Green Mock Trial Team who won the Oxford Heat of the Citizenship Foundation Mock Trial Competitions on Saturday 18th March.
Wood Green School has been taking part in the Citizenship Foundation Mock Trial scheme for many years, and has had some notable successes during this time. In 2017, we sent a very strong team of passionate year 9 students to the local heat in Oxford, and won this round, to the great delight of the whole team and supporters (of whom there were many).
This means that the team will go onto the regional heat on May 13th in Reading, where they will take on teams from the wider region. This dedicated team of would-be lawyers are now hard at work learning their new case and writing their speeches and questions.
So much credit must go to these students, who have given up lunch times and attended after school sessions to learn their parts, dissect the relevant laws and learn about the justice system. It is an invaluable experience, and we have seen them grow in confidence and knowledge throughout the process. The mock trial is exactly the kind of wider school experience that education is famed for, and something that Wood Green School feels is a key part of our school ethos and values.
Special mention should go to Ella Shadbolt, who won a well-deserved additional prize as the Best Defence Lawyer. We cannot let this occasion pass without also thanking Mrs Sally Watson for the years of dedication, precision and wisdom she has brought to the Mock Trial, making this a really special enrichment activity for our students.
