Year 10 catering students “stepped up to the plate” on Tuesday 9th December by providing a delicious Christmas tea for over 80 senior citizens, from the Witney area.
The students made a variety of sandwiches on different breads, including a selection of different foods for people with certain dietary needs. This was accompanied with cheese scones and a variety of decorated cakes and biscuits.
The students wore their Chef’s whites and hats to meet and greet the Senior citizens at the school door, before showing them to their seats. Each Senior citizen was given a cup of tea or coffee with a petit-four before the Headteacher (Mr Shadbolt) welcomed the guests to Wood Green School.
After the tea the School choir sang popular Christmas Carols, which were greatly enjoyed by the Senior Citizens. Mr Askew expertly led the raffle, making sure that each Senior Citizen went home with a gift.
One of the star prizes was a Christmas cake decorated by Grace Rankin. Many of the students enjoyed the experience so much, that they requested to repeat their experiences in “Hospitality and Catering” for next year. However, that will be a goal for the future Year 10s of 2015 and an event to look forward to.
Wood Green School would like to thank Waitrose for their donations of Christmas cake bases for the Students to marzipan and ice, to Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s for their contributions towards the food.
Finally thank you to all the students and staff involved for making this event such a success.
