Ofsted inspectors spent two days in school on 5th and 6th November. The report from this visit is expected to be in school within the next week The visit was a monitoring inspection, to judge progress, not a full inspection, which will take place in 2015. The only judgements available this time are ‘making reasonable progress’ or not. I will of course send parents a summary in the next edition of our usual Inspection Newsletter.
The formal period for gathering opinions and comments on our proposal to become an academy with the Challenge Partners Academies Trust has closed. Thank you to those who responded or came to the parent meetings. Leadership Team and Governors will be holding a follow up meeting with Challenge Partners in late November and then the Governors will be considering all the responses at the next Full Governing Body meeting on 9th December. Hilary Pillin, Chair of Governors and I will keep parents informed of developments.
The Year 7 Choral Competition and our Awards Evening took place this week.
The Year 7s showed enthusiasm and talent on Wednesday, performing the songs they had been learning in music lessons this term. Performances by our choir ensembles added to the evening and gave the chance for our new students to see what they can aspire to in singing at Wood Green. Well done to the winners 7CPK and to all the tutor groups.
On Friday we welcomed back our ex-Year 11 and 13 students and were delighted that so many had travelled back for the occasion. The evening had a literary feel this year: the guest speaker was a local author Mary Hoffman, who gave an entertaining and inspiring personal speech and presented awards to our students, including the new Caitlin Cooper Award for a piece of creative writing, which was won by Amy Beecham in Year 12. The Emily Buley award for outstanding contribution to school life was awarded to Callum Kelly . The Senior Choir was outstanding on the night too.
The spirit at both evenings was wonderful, with many examples of our senior students inspiring those lower down the school and all students showing the best of Wood Green.
