During the February half term 40 students and 4 members of staff went to Altenmarkt and Zauchensee in Austria for the school ski trip. After a very early start (we left school at 1:30am on the Friday!) we made it to Austria very smoothly and got set up ready to ski on the Saturday. We were very lucky that during the previous week there was a lot of snow in both resorts so when we arrived it was white everywhere!
We were incredibly lucky with the weather with bright clear blue skies nearly all week. All of the students progressed so much over the course of their ski lessons. We had some complete novices who by the end of the week had managed to complete some red runs and even a few who managed a small section of a black run! There were some very scared faces at the tops of slopes followed by some very wide grins by the time they had reached the bottom!
The staff who took the students had a fantastic time and it was so pleasing to see how proud each student was with their progress. Some students who we took on the last trip 2 years ago had improved in leaps and bounds in only their second week of skiing. Some were on their first ever trip to the ski slopes and they did fantastically. All 44 of us were pretty tired by the time we got back on Friday but it had been a truly memorable trip and hopefully one that lives in the memories of the students for a long time.
A final thank you to all of the parents and carers who made it possible for these students to come on the trip, they really were glowing by the end of the day when we had a final couple of runs as a whole group.
Bring on 2021!
