Sixth Form

WELCOME

Wood Green is a high-performing, happy and popular Sixth Form community, where all students are able to move onto the next phase of their life with the qualifications, skills and experiences which will ensure success. Whatever your interests, career ambitions or subject choices, we are sure that you will find it a challenging and enjoyable place to complete this journey. We offer an extensive choice of A Levels and are delighted to be able to extend the curriculum to offer vocational qualifications jointly with Abingdon and Witney College.

In an Ofsted inspection (October 2013), all Sixth Form teaching observed was judged to be either good or outstanding.

We have high expectations of our students and foster a strong work ethic and spirit of participation; we expect our students to be responsible young adults.

We offer excellent teaching, a diverse enrichment programme and a highly supportive academic tutorial system. Our students work hard and are successful. They make a significant contribution to many school activities such as Orchestra or School bands, three Senior Choirs, drama productions, sports teams, School Council, Sixth Form Council and clubs. Students have had huge success beyond the classroom exploring extra and super-curricular opportunities, from participating in the Mock United Nations General Assembly to extensive volunteering opportunities in the local area.

Wood Green School is a founding member of the National Baccalaureate Trust. Further details of the WGS National Baccalaureate can be found here.

We have extensive links with universities, training providers and employers. The vast majority of our students progress to higher education with regular admissions to Oxbridge, and over a third to Russell Group universities, in diverse fields from Modern Foreign Languages to Medicine, Business to Biology, Art, Architecture, English to Engineering, and Music to Mathematics. In recent years, our students have also gone on to study at universities in Europe and Canada.

Some students have also taken up apprenticeships with local pharmaceutical or accountancy companies, into the Armed Forces, or even into commercial pilot training. Local employers often come in to talk to our students about opportunities available to them, either during their time in Sixth Form or beyond. All of our students leave Wood Green going into either further education or training, or employment or an apprenticeship. Our extensive choice of A level courses means we are confident that we can meet your specific needs and interests.

They also benefit from other opportunities, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, which has a strong tradition at Wood Green, with many students currently involved in the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Furthermore, students can gain extra-curricular accreditation through participation in the Community Sports Leadership Award, or the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) awards.
