All 16 year olds are required to continue in education or training until their 18th birthday. There are many choices available to students on leaving Year 11 such as School, College, Apprenticeships or T Levels. You can start work after sixteen, but you will also need to do training or learning that will lead to a real, valuable qualification. For more information see:
OxMe information School - Wood Green School offer an extensive choice of A Levels and are able to extend the curriculum to offer vocational qualifications jointly with Abingdon & Witney College or you may choose to study at a different 6th Form.
College - you may choose to follow a more vocational route at college. We are served by many colleges such as: Abingdon & Witney College, City of Oxford College and Hartpury College.
Apprenticeships - Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. As an apprentice you will: Work alongside experienced staff; gain job-specific skills; earn a wage and get holiday pay and study towards related qualifications. Apprenticeships take 1 to 4 years to complete depending on their level. Amazing Apprenticeships are running a series of informative webinars that will provide an abundance of tips, advice, and information around the topic of apprenticeships. Each webinar lasts for 30 minutes and will take place on Zoom. Participants will be required to sign up before the session and will receive an email confirmation and a reminder an hour before it begins. Traineeship - Traineeships and are for young people (aged 16-24) who want to work, but need extra help before starting an apprenticeship or job. Traineeships will include a substantial work placement and other opportunities to develop the skills and workplace experience that employers require. They can last up to 6 months with the trainee usually spending time at a college or training centre before starting a work experience placement with an employer. The aim of the traineeship is to move the trainee into an apprenticeship on completion of the programme. See here and the Government website here for more information.
T Levels - Developed in collaboration with employers, T Levels offer students a recognised technical qualification which is equivalent to three A levels and attracts the same number of UCAS points. The combination of classroom learning (80%) and a 9-week industry placement (20%) creates a unique opportunity for students to study whilst gaining the knowledge and skills businesses need. At the end of the two-year programme, a T Level can lead to an entry-level skilled job, a higher apprenticeship or further study, including at university.
