Year 7 students have been learning about public speaking and debating this year in Academic Enrichment lessons. On Wednesday, eleven of the students took part in a debating competition with the other schools in the Acer Trust. They worked with students from the other schools to present debates on a wide range of topics, from whether superheroes make good role models and whether it would be good to be famous, to whether Art and Music are important subjects, whether uniforms are a relic of the past and whether kindness is the most important character trait. They debated long and hard about whether flights impact the environment negatively and what government could do to stop us taking so many. Everyone made great speeches and responded to some really challenging questions from the floor.
Matthew Arnold School and Icknield Community College gave us worthy competition and this year, the shield went to Icknield.
